Frozen: Olaf’s Frozen Adventure Review

I’ve been watching a LOOOT of Frozen, lately! I really love the characters and the message of overcoming obstacles that are so prevalent in these films. In the spirit of the 2020 quarantine, we decided to watch a fun Christmas movie together, and had a lot of fun with Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.

This short movie (it takes about 20 minutes) is jam-packed with a heartfelt Christmas story sure to warm your heart. It has all the magic you’d expect – great costumes, good friends, and fun songs to share.

Beginning at the first Christmas Arendelle has seen in a long time, Anna and Elsa and all their friends are looking for lots of holiday fun. And yes – they actually saw CHRISTMAS!!! After a decade of “winter holiday” and “tree day”, actually hearing the word “Christmas” is a breath of fresh air! But sadly, despite all the party planning and anticipation, Elsa and Anna realize that they don’t have any Christmas traditions of their own! Thanks a lot, previous king and queen…

Olaf, the lovable and optimistic snowman that he is, decides to fix this problem. Taking the reindeer Sven along for the ride, Olaf visits everyone in Arendelle to find tradition for his friends. Unfortunately, horrific luck strikes the joyful snowman, reminding me of bad days I’ve had in real life. Cliffs, hungry wildlife, and explosions are only some of the obstacles Olaf and Sven have to face! And the fruitcake is one of the best parts!

Wondering where Olaf is, Elsa and Anna go from house to house carrying lanterns while they look for their friend. This part was really cool, because it’s reminiscent of traditions from many cultures which have actors portraying Mary and Joseph trying to find room at the inns in Bethlehem. I loved the melding of culture present in this scene.

Eventually, everything is rectified, as Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and the entire kingdom find a Christmas tradition they love. The ending song is sure to make you cry, so be prepared!

There was so much love packed in this short film, and it was a message I really needed. Olaf really went above and beyond to help his friends, and it helped me to know that friendship really is the most magical thing of all. It’s easy to get discouraged, and feel like we’re not making a difference. But if we continue to be true friends, we’ll soon see that everything is possible. So never give up – because friendship is worth fighting for!

Thanks, and have fun – even if there IS a quarantine on!
