This book is a sweet tale about a girl named Carrie who loves to bake with her mom! Everything’s going great, until a homework assignment and prejudice threaten to darken Carrie’s day. But it’s mom to the rescue, as family ties and tolerance win the day in a tale that makes math relevant to us all.
I’ve struggled with math myself. It’s annoying to do long division, especially when you have dyslexia. And I totally empathize with little Carrie as she struggles to find a way to make math interesting. Carrie’s mom reminds me of my own, as she helps her daughter find the answer in this heart-warming tale. At the end of the day, it’s love that finds a way, and math becomes less of a monster. In a world where academics are king, it’s important to show relevant integration of subjects like math. This yummy tale gives us not only a way to incorporate math in our everyday lives, but also gives a try-at-home recipe at the end of the book that sounds simply scrumptious!
This book also features a message about gender equality. While I think the equality message would have shone more brightly in its own dedicated book, it comes to a satisfying conclusion. The ending of this book is a bit abrupt. However, if you and your little one are faced with the math monster, this cheery tale is sure to shed a new light on the subject, and turn those fears into something incredible – and perhaps edible! Sometimes, a subject we struggle with just needs a new perspective, and Carrie’s Cupcake Success is sure to enlighten children and parents alike in the sweetest way. A story of empowerment and overcoming obstacles, the baking adventures of Carrie and her mom are sure to brighten your day.
