The Talisman Series Book Four: The Battle for Verdana by Brett Salter Book Review

Book four of The Talisman Series continues the thrilling adventures of Rome and Julian, secret defenders of earth, as they fight against the deadly forces of the Void. Shattered by the events of the previous entry in the series, and stripped of their powers as a Dragon and Synergist Knight, the boys struggle to find a way to restore their lost abilities and continue the war for their world. But the forces of darkness give them no reprieve; battle after battle rages as the forces of darkness grow bolder and more powerful. Joined by little Camela and ice dragon Krysta, as well as the mysterious monk Jericho and his sworn brother, Clay of the Den of Gaia, Julian and Rome must fight as never before. Together, the team must work together to save precious lives and stop the Darkbrands of the Void from destroying the stronghold of Verdana, as the war surges to unbelievable new heights.

Picking up the action right where the previous volume left off, The Talisman Series Book Four: The Battle for Verdana by Brett Salter hits the ground running and doesn’t stop until the final page. The chapters seem to fly by as every battle becomes more serious than the last. Rome and Julian, with little power left of their own, must rely on their teammates, and define what it means to them to truly be heroes. Camela is as precocious as usual, and I liked the addition of taciturn Jericho and stalwart Clay to the party. Every new character is well-developed, and has a unique story of their own. The battles are fiercer, and as the series moves ever towards its ultimate conclusion, the full weight of the war against the Void takes shape as our heroes push to the finish.

Ending on the perfect note to propel the next volume into action, the only real detraction from this book is having to wait for the next installment in the series. With fantasy violence and blood, and in need of only a slight polish, this action-packed story is perfect for ages 10 and up and all who love stories of brave heroes, knights, and dragons. Join Rome, Julian, and their team as they fight to defend the earth from the forces of evil, in what may be their most difficult battle yet.
